The main content of this article: The ICT penetration and the level of e-commerce on both the supply and demand sides in Greece are in their embryonic stages.
This article has mentioned a research which designed for improving future strategic management plan for information systems of Greek tourism. The findings of that research indicate that the tourism business sector is lagging behind the opportunities in the rapidly changing environment. The lack of strategic business planning and the limited levels of understanding of the e-tourism potential imply that the Greek tourism sector needs to rethink its position in order to compete at an international level with other destinations.
Strategic elements in this case: Collaborative networking should be established, through exchanging linkages with other complimentary suppliers and travel-related websites.
Similar conclusions can be drawn for many destinations around the world. Hence destinations around the world will need to develop a long-term e-tourism strategy and to coordinate their public and private sectors.
